Real Weddings:
Christina and Jordan’s wedding at Irish Barn at Whistling Straits
featuring Laurelyn Savannah Photography
Christina and Jordan became instant best friends when Christina found herself seated next to him at work (they both work at Groupon.) It wasn’t until two years later that their friendship became love and eventually, marriage. The couple celebrated with a scenic wedding at Irish Barn at Whistling Straits Golf Course. The details are both elegant and lighthearted and brought to life by an incredible palette of corals in the gorgeous florals by Bloom Floral and adorable paper goods by Mint + Lovely. Laurelyn Savannah Photography captured Christina and Jordan, the beauty of the outdoor venue and the joy of the celebration perfectly.
What made the wedding special and unique?
The celebration was such a wonderful combination of relaxed elegance and natural elements. Not only did the couple have lovely taste, but they chose not to fight the natural beauty of the surroundings and embraced the rustic location with all that it has to offer.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
From the bride: My heart was set on wearing a blush dress. I actually found one that I absolutely loved, but after thinking more about it, I didn’t want a dress that was strapless. I wanted one with sleeves and an embellished back. So after breaking up with my first wedding dress, I went back to the drawing board and tried on another 10 dresses, with no luck. So I decided to take a break from dress shopping appointments and instead started sifting through some of the old magazine clippings I had cut out before I even started trying on dresses. I came across one dress that I was obsessed with on paper so decided to track down any stores that sold it so I could try it on. I went to try it on alone so that I could really focus on my own opinion of the dress, and it was love at first sight. To me it was beautiful, elegant, and romantic and still had that hint of sexy with the embellished back. I brought 4 of my bridesmaids back with me so they could give me their opinion; I tried on two dresses for them, but didn’t tell them which was the “one.” Unanimously, they all picked my favorite wedding dress!
What were some touches added to make it personal?
From the bride: My husband and I wrote a note on our personal stationery to each one of our tables, thanking them for coming to celebrate with us. We also shared a little story/memory about them and why they mean so much to us. My bouquet was very special to me. Aside from the beautiful flowers, I wrapped my late grandma’s rosary and a locket charm with a photo of my mom and dad on their wedding day, representing my “something borrowed and something old.”
What was the most memorable part of the day?
From the bride: My favorite moment was from our ceremony, when we said our vows to each other. We both wrote our own vows and I remember rehearsing it out loud to myself several times during the weeks leading up to the wedding. I was so nervous, but when we finally said them to each other I basically had memorized the words. It was the most genuine and heartfelt moment we have ever shared with each other. It made it even more special that it was in front of our closest friends and family.
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
Christina and Jordan met at work at Groupon in Chicago, Illinois. They became instant best friends when Christina found herself seated next to him at work. Since they were friends for about 2 years, she was a bit skeptical about dating Jordan, but quickly found that Jordan was the most generous and genuinely fun man she had ever met. Jordan asked Christina to marry him while traveling in Iceland, at the beautiful Gullfoss Waterfall. He completely surprised her by getting down on one knee and asking Christina for her hand as she was filming the breathtaking waterfall, so she even got the proposal on video!
