Marianne and Raymond were married at Castello di Spaltenna, a picturesque hotel situated in Gaiole in Chianti, where “time seems to have stopped.” Guests travelled great distances to celebrate with the couple and Marianna and Raymond focused on touches that would make the wedding special for everyone like bespoke welcome bags, plentiful Italian fare, spectacular florals by La Rosa Canina and a stunning day in one of the most beautiful locations in the world. We love the relaxed charm and elegance of the details and it’s all captured beautifully by Stefano Santucci Studio.
What made the wedding special and unique?
Having all of the most special people in our lives there celebrating alongside us. I hope that all of the little touches made it unique and of course the incredible setting. There aren’t many places in the world that offer such a stunning backdrop.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
My dress was Rosa Clara. I realized early on that Spanish designers suited me, so focused on stores that stocked the very best that Spain had to offer. The dress that I first tried on and the version of it that I wore on the day differed greatly. With the help of a fantastic dressmaker we made quite a few changes that made it feel very unique.
What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?
As all of our guests were traveling a great distance to join us we wanted to make them feel special when they arrived in Italy. We had bespoke tote bags made which were filled with mine and my husband’s favorite Italian treats, from taralli and baci to little bottles of prosecco. We also threw in a few practical items like mosquito bands and a guide to the area, which we wrote based on our own experiences.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
It’s so hard to pick one specific moment. If I had to choose it would probably be the moment just before I stepped down the aisle. Standing at the top of the terrace with my Dad on my arm, looking down at my gorgeous husband-to-be and all of our incredible friends and family. I realized at that moment how incredibly blessed I am.
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
Ray and I met at university. We were friends for many years before we realized we had a connection that was stronger than just friendship.
Ray popped the question 11 months before our big day at our favorite restaurant in all the world. It’s a small family run osteria set in the Umbrian hills. We basically planned our week long holiday around our meal there. I had not a clue in the world that under a big metal cloche was a diamond ring instead of my dessert! It really was the most perfect setting for such a memorable moment. I was in such shock I didn’t even finish my actual dessert!
