We love Cannon Green—a Charleston venue with the perfect blend of the city’s historic charm and modern scene. Naturally, we were thrilled when photographers Sean Money + Elizabeth Fay sent over Leah and Reza’s lovey church wedding followed by a beautiful reception at none other than Cannon Green. Planned and designed by Megan Chandler of Ooh! Events, the details are both elegant and relaxed and punctuated by tons of gorgeous flowers by Out of the Garden. Lucky for us,Sean Money + Elizabeth Fay captured all the traditional yet modern style of the day in these beautiful images.
What made the wedding special and unique?
When we started planning our wedding, the most important thing to us both was that it felt like us – traditional yet modern, elegant yet comfortable. All our guests were coming from out of town to celebrate with us in Charleston, and we really wanted to share with them what we love so much about Charleston – the historic charm, the vibrant downtown, and the great food! Hosting our reception at Cannon Green allowed us to do just that.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
My dress was by Lela Rose, and it was the very first dress I tried on when shopping in Chicago with my mom and sisters. I had no idea what I wanted in a wedding dress, but I immediately felt comfortable when I put it on.
What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?
Reza and I had our hands in all aspects of the planning, making it feel very personal to us. We crafted our own ceremony and vows. Our welcome bags for our guests included treats from our respective home towns, from Chicago where we live now, and from Charleston. And our favorite part – our signature cocktail, the Grizz Fizz, was named after our precious pup.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
Our entire weekend was so memorable, but exchanging our vows was the best part of the weekend for us both.
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
Reza and I both work at a small investment firm in Chicago and took a particular interest in each other at the company holiday party. Because it is a small company, we decided to keep our relationship quiet (for over a year!). Our coworkers were supportive when they found out, many were at our wedding celebrating with us, and we still work together today. We got engaged while walking our dog along the beautiful lakefront in Chicago. Rez then surprised me with my entire family in town from Ohio to celebrate with us. It was perfect.
