We can’t resist a good reveal and bride Beatriz’s epic skirt swap has us enchanted. The classic cap sleeve, lace top and white taffeta skirt lent itself perfectly to Beatriz and TJ’s traditional cathedral ceremony and the second skirt of layered, blue tulle lent itself perfectly to the romantic garden vibes their Summerour Studio reception. What made the wedding special and unique?

Our day turned out to be everything we wanted and we owe all of that to our fantastic vendors! We got married at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Buckhead and our reception was at Summerour Studio. We fell in love with Summerour Studio when we saw it because of the beautiful courtyard that makes you feel like you are in Europe and we loved the rustic look of the interior of the building. Everything was simple, elegant and with a pop of blue!

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I tried everything! I didn’t go into the process with a vision, but I quickly became fond of the idea of separates and wanted a simple and elegant look. This worked well with my longtime dream of wearing blue at my wedding. My mom came down from NJ for a weekend and we went on a dress trying marathon (not even kidding!). At Kelly’s Closet in Atlanta, I quickly fell in love with the Lea Ann Belter separates – the detail on the lace top is amazing! On that same weekend, the Sentimentalist in Atlanta was having a Chantel Lauren trunk show with the blue Mae gown that I had always dreamed of trying on. Everything felt perfect once I had the blue skirt on and I knew it would pair perfectly with the Lea-Ann Belter lace top for the reception. It was a match that allowed me to have everything I wanted on my wedding day!

What was the most memorable part of the day?

My family is Spanish so we had our DJ play Spanish music before dinner as most of the wedding guests wouldn’t recognize the music and we wanted to play more recognizable songs after dinner. It started with all my family and some of our guests on the dance floor dancing to traditional Spanish music and next thing you know all of our friends and family joined!! It was so much fun and dance lessons were being given! Dinner had been served and everyone was still on the dance floor so the DJ asked if anyone planned on eating dinner and everyone laughed. That was a special moment for us and so much fun to see our family and friends coming together in support of Spanish traditions.

 

What was your something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue?

My dress was my something new and a bracelet from my Mom was my something borrowed. And my something blue – well that was everything! I love blue and I can’t thank Taylor (my wedding planner / everything) enough for helping make my crazy blue dreams come true. There were blue accents throughout the day and of course the blue skirt that I paired with my Lea Ann Belter top for the reception!

 

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

In Hoboken, NJ on the waterfront with two of our best friends! I grew up in NJ and we met and lived in Hoboken for four years before moving to Atlanta, GA. It is actually quite the funny story. We were staying with our friends Brooke and Alex who I’ve known since 5th grade. Brooke actually introduced T.J. and I as she went to Penn State with him. T.J. called Brooke and Alex earlier that week so they strategized that we’d walk along the waterfront in Hoboken and then head to my favorite sushi spot for dinner. We were walking around the water and T.J. asked if Brooke and Alex could get a picture of us, my response: “Come on – we aren’t tourists! We lived here forever!” I finally gave in for one picture and immediately started walking away completely not realizing that T.J. was getting down on one knee to propose! It was an easy yes! Hoboken will always have a special place in our hearts and this moment solidified it.

Haley and Will’s wedding at Los Poblanos

Haley and Will’s family and friends joined them for the entire weekend at Los Poblanos Ranch and Lavender Farm. What made the wedding special and unique?

Our guests had the opportunity to stay the entire weekend at our venue, Los Poblanos Ranch and Lavender Farm. A relaxing, low key weekend began in the beautiful lavender farm setting and culminated with a beautiful, garden adjacent outdoor ceremony and fountain-side reception.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

My grandmother, mom, sister, and sister-in-law helped me find my dress at Mockingbird Bridal. The dress designer is Allure Bridal with alterations by Clara Atkinson at Kona Clothing. Kona created the illusion, off the shoulder look I had dreamed up.

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal? 

We used our family’s Blue Willow china for every place setting at the long table as well as our family’s collection of Chinoiserie ginger jars as center pieces at all the round tables. However, one of my favorite touches was the lemon tree and the unique way our florist created place cards out of lemons and lemon leaves. Such a fun piece added to all the traditional elements we had.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

The sunset photo shoot in the lavender fields.

Tell us how you met and became engaged. 

We met through close family friends and served together in our church and Young Life prior to Will finally getting the guts to ask me out. We dated for nearly 10 months, before Will walked me down to his favorite oak tree grove on his family ranch, dropped to a knee and asked me to marry him.

Maddie and David’s wedding at Steeple House

Pantone recently announced the color of 2020—Classic Blue. We’re celebrating the news with Maddie and David’s lush—and filled to the brim with blue—nuptials at Steeple House in Maui. Dream team planners Maui’s Angels and photographer Wendy Laurel unite to create and capture the joy of the day. Florals are by Bella Bloom with stationery and signage by Miss B Calligraphy. The couple, who met when they attended high school in Hong Kong, described their vibrant day as more of a big family reunion and you can definitely tell it was a fun one from these gorgeous images.

What made the wedding special and unique?

The location was exactly what I had dreamed. Ever since I was a young child we would travel to Maui whenever we could. We would stay in Kapalua area and would always pass by the little steeple house. As the years went on and my family purchased a home in Lahaina, driving to Kapalua and parking right in front of steeple house so my parents and I could run along the path became a morning routine. I had always envisioned getting married there but to my knowledge it was never used for wedding ceremonies. I had even taken a picture there years prior sitting on the steps of the little chapel. It was  only a couple months after my husband and I had gotten engaged was Steeple House available for us to spend our special day. Another thing that made this day so special were the people. My husband and I met in Hong Kong in high school. We have been dating a long time allowing us to get to know each other’s families extremely well. We had guests from all over the world show up to celebrate with us because of our upbringing. So instead of our marriage celebration feeling like two groups of families/friends coming together for the first time, it felt like one big family reunion.

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

Some of my most favorite personal touches were the specific details and decor of the wedding. In order to successfully plan a wedding from afar we put a lot of trust into our amazing wedding planners for executing our vision. We had beautiful floral arrangements which including king protea flowers. The name cards for each setting were crafted from seashells, and our wedding favors including local Maui coffee, jams, and salts made by our Maui neighbors who owned a farm.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

Immediately after the ceremony I took off my heels and was barefoot for the rest of the night. Having this luxury because of where we were located made it more comfortable than I could ever imagine. One of the most memorable part of the night was how eager everyone of our guests were to get on the dance floor. It was truly a party and my aunt, who is a performer, came walking onto the dance floor on high stilts.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

My husband and I met in high school in Hong Kong. I personally have grown up overseas my whole life. My parents are international educators. David is originally from Massachusetts and moved to Hong Kong for his father’s job. We dated throughout high school, decided to try long distance in college and eventually I moved to Baltimore where David was finishing school. We got engaged the following year. David planned an intricate scavenger hunt which led me all around. Eventually I ended up in a botanical garden where he was waiting for me by a koi pond (our high-school in Hong Kong had a picnic table by a Koi pond we often sat at to eat lunch together).

Tori and Adam’s wedding at Barnsley Resort

MAJOR fall vibes in Tori and Adam’s gorgeous wedding day Barnsley Resort. The couple tied the knot on a chilly November day while guests snuggled under luxe throws at a ceremony in the round, under a clear top tent beside historic manor house ruins of the north Georgia venue. Designed by Molly McKinley Designs, the stunning details shine in a fall palette featuring peacock, slate, olive, and silver and include florals by Andy Beach & Co. and invitations and day-of paper by Foglio Press. Rain added even more style to an already-gorgeous day and it’s all captured here by our friend Davy Whitener.

From the planner: Tori and Adam’s wedding weekend began with a color palette as fun and vibrant as this couple themselves, featuring peacock, slate, olive, and silver. The wedding suite by Foglio Press hinted many of the design textures and colors to come: an embossed herringbone border, duck blue envelopes, a peacock velvet ribbon, silver wreathed wax seal, textured grey liners, and a sketch of the historic Barnsley ruins.

When guests arrived on site at Barnsley, each was given a gift box with classic local food items from many cities significant to Tori and Adam. Tori’s bouquet featured calla lilies, which were in her mom’s bridal bouquet, in addition to peonies, dahlia, eucalyptus, white stock, and brunia berries.

Tori and Adam tied the knot on a chilly November day. Guests snuggled under luxe throws at a ceremony in the round, under a clear top tent beside historic Barnsley Resort manor house ruins. The natural square arbor of flowering branches surrounded the couple as they said their vows. Flower girls held floral hoops, a creative take on flower girl baskets, in addition to sparkling sneakers and custom jean jackets painted with their names.

Cocktail hour was held on the terrace and rotunda of the Georgian Hall. Tori and Adam wanted guests to get to know each other and understand how cherished they were to be present at their wedding weekend, so each person found their seat with an escort card featuring their photo, and signed a guest book that included an information page dedicated to each guest. The family Bible, old photo albums and framed wedding portraits, decorated cocktail hour tables.

After cocktail hour, the band initiated a parade to gather guests and lead them from cocktail hour into the reception space. As guests entered Savannah Hall, a large brick fireplace and towering greenery trees made a dramatic statement in the ballroom. Cane back chairs and oval farm tables brought an intimate dinner party feel, while lush greenery runners and grey velvet linens made the atmosphere luxe and warm. Custom wood bars and stage surround of herringbone pattern mirrored the herringbone brick pattern of Barnsley fireplace.

Sweet tooths, Tori and Adam, cut the pale blue wedding cake, in addition to several flavors of wedding pie, and a groom’s cake featuring Boston sports teams.

Later in the evening, Tori donned a painted denim jacket matching those gifted to the flower girls, scripted with her newly married name. The newlyweds ran through friends, waving LED lighted balloons, before hopping on a golf cart for their grand exit.

Kristen and Ben’s classic wedding at Rancho Las Lomas

Rancho Las Lomas has never NOT been amazing and Kristen and Ben’s beautiful day is no exception. The couple’s quick, six-month engagement posed no problem for the expert DIY-ers and their team of talented vendors led by Monge Amore Events. We love the white and french blue palette—a natural choice based on the location’s hand-painted tiling and the florals by Bended Knee are gorgeous at every turn. A floral-dressed three-tiered cake by Flower Eggs and Butter is a true pièce de résistance tying together all the classic details. What made the wedding special and unique? 

We got engaged in February and got married in July! I’m a teacher, so it just made sense to have the wedding during the summer…and I wasn’t about to wait until the next summer! We worked together and did a lot of the planning together. The only way we were able to get all of our vendors booked and all the details set in place in time was by tag teaming and working together.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

My dress is from Jaclyn’s Bridal in Costa Mesa. It was the third shop I visited, so I had a pretty good idea of what type of silhouette I wanted. I had my mom and my best friend with me, and I think they were sure about the dress even before I realized I was sure. I love the sweetheart neckline and the details of the lace. I also really liked the fitted silhouette that flared out to the lace train, even if it did make the first dance a bit of a challenge!

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal? 

We made a ton of the decor ourselves. Both Ben and I are artsy and I’m also very crafty on top of that. I’m a total planner, so I just started pinning ideas and making lists of projects for us to work on and design ourselves. I made a LOT of trips to Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, and Joann – like a LOT. We bought unfinished wood signs, stained them, and used paint pens and India ink to letter them. I watercolored the foods of our menu and then scanned them into Photoshop and arranged them around our menu. I obsessed over finding pretty containers that fit exactly the correct volume of dry ingredients so that we could make our instant brownie mix favors, then designed and ordered custom labels for them. I wrote “bon appetite” in calligraphy with a dip pen and gold ink above stamps of the meal choices on hexagon tiles. When Rancho Las Lomas said they didn’t have a current map of the wildlife, I designed a map so that guests could visit the animals during cocktail hour, and we included it in the program fans that we made for guests. I wrote stories of some of our most memorable dates and we used them in place of the table numbers. I also made the cake because I’m a pastry chef and used to manage a custom cake shop that specialized in ornate wedding cakes. I taught Ben how to make sugar flowers and leaves, and he did a pretty good job – his leaves even made it onto the cake! I wanted a tiny wedding cake that was simple but elegant, so I just added a subtle pattern to the fondant for texture and focused on making lifelike sugar flowers.

What was the most memorable part of the day? 

I think it was a blur for the both of us. Everyone warned us that it would be, so we just tried to enjoy every moment that we could. For me, there was this moment that I was alone in the bridal suite. It was probably the only time I was alone the entire day and I think I remember it because I was alone with my thoughts and time slowed a bit. The wedding party was lined up to walk across the bridge and down the aisle, and I could peek out the window and see one section of the bridge. Before my brother returned from escorting my mom to her seat to walk me down the aisle, I remember seeing Ben cross the bridge and thinking that he looked so confident and dapper. He had been so excited to get married, and I think it really showed – even in that brief moment I could see him from afar.

For Ben, he said it was when he saw me walking down the aisle toward him. He said that as cliche as that answer is, he was thinking how lucky he was that it is him that gets to spend the rest of his life with me.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

We met online! I reached out to Ben and we starting talking immediately. It’s never been complicated – it just felt easy to spend time with him. Soon enough we were inseparable, and now it feels like we’ve known each other forever!

Ben pulled a surprise engagement at the Huntington Library. It’s one of my favorite places and it had become one of his as well. When I woke up that morning to run the pancake breakfast after the 5K at the high school I teach at, I had no idea where the day was going to take me. So when Ben so nonchalantly suggested we go to the Huntington after the event, little did I know that our usual path through the gardens would be followed and documented by a professional photographer, who was of course there to capture the moment he popped the question.
