We’re loving the mix of styles in this Charleston wedding designed and styled by the fabulous ooh! Events . It’s part rustic, part boho and really romantic. Florist, Out of the Garden, went to town with the deep, rich color palette that popped against the lush green surroundings of the plantation. The rentals and table settings are so cool— think raw wood chargers and an antler motif—and pops of gold are the perfect touch of glam. Lucky for us the amazing Clay Austin was on hand to capture the stunning bride and groom and all the details of their gorgeous day.
What made the wedding special and unique?
There were so many special things happening here! All the antlers were collected by the MOB through the course of the planning! The favors bags were wildflower seeds (packets designed by the bride) because she’s a gardener! The invites and welcome bags were designed by the bride! The getaway was a slow clap started by the MOH – it was hysterical and totally indicative of the true friendship this couple shares! The photographer did engagement portraits of them in real-time (he came with us to all of the tastings and just photographed them interacting). There were tons of fun different kinds of things that were very close to this couple.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
Gretchen wasn’t sure what exactly she was looking for, and she tried on several different styles at Kleinfelds. When she tried this one on she was done. It was perfect.
What were some touches added to make it personal?
Gretchen created the wedding logo and put it on napkins, gift bags, etc. as a repeating motif.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
According to Gretchen, “I tried to take in every moment, which was the best advice I received. The most memorable part of the day was being in the limo with just my father, right before the ceremony. The happiness was overwhelming. It was special, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
Engagement: “James and I met through one of my coworkers. We started as friends, then realized there was something more. We were in Vermont, hiking Stratton Mountain in the pouring rain, when I turned around to (probably) complain, and James was on one knee. It was beautiful. We shared a mini bottle of Veuve after I said yes.”
