There are certain wedding traditions that have brides scrambling at the last minute; I bet “something blue” is often one of them. Unless you have a treasured heirloom or are incorporating blue as a key color, not many favorable options come to mind.
As I try to figure out for myself how I can get creative, I’ve pulled together a bit of inspiration.
There’s something sweet about tucking away your something blue and saving it for you soon-to-be hubby. You know you’re following tradition, but you’re saving one item for last. Of course, if you’re too excited about your lingerie to wait, there’s always the option of the garter.
Trinkets are the best way to make a statement with blue. From a cherished sapphire band to a hair pin, or a charm for your bouquet, there are ways to keep blue very present without stealing the show. But who says you have to be the one wearing your blue item all night? Sharing the experience with you beau can be fun, and if you’re having a more whimsical wedding, consider blue cuff links or bow ties.
The easiest and most playful way to say yes to blue is through beauty. I’ll be tucking my toes away and am considering a powder blue polish that will match the sand in Cabo (and perhaps adding some sparkles). Deep blue eyeliner, a pale blue shadow or a sweep of blue mascara to your bottom lashes for the after-party are other ways to wear the shade.
And if all else fails, spritz on Something Blue before stepping into your gown. You’ll be reminded of teh tradition all day, and no one else has to know.
