Grey Likes Weddings Rockin' a new rock?!

Ah, flowers. How fun is it to spend days just thinking about petals and ribbons and colors. It’s really lovely. I got so caught up in it that I’ve decided to do all my own arrangements. Yes, I am crazy. But working with flowers makes me very, very happy.

In all my floral experience (a whole summer and some freelance work…), though, there were always those tricky little suckers that forced my thinking outside the box- boutonnières. With bouquets and arrangements, you can always add or subtract with ease until things look just right. It’s an art. Boutonnières, on the other hand, are a science. You have to know what you want before you start building. Each bud needs to be just the right size. No twig or sprig can look less than lively. To make a boutonnière is to commit to perfection.

Bouts

So much of wedding planning is a focus on detail, and there are few details I appreciate quite as deeply as these little sculptures. And since florists are getting more and more creative, it can be fun to get your man involved! Is he a wild child? Add some feathers (see #1)! Is he ultra-chic? Go for metal (see #2)! Perhaps he thinks flowers are too feminine. Explore working with succulents (see #6)! Boutonnières are a great way to get him looped into the flower conversation, and to take a moment to feel grateful for the small things in life.
