When it came time to plan the wedding, Michael and I were living in New York City and our friends and family were spread out across the country. It was important to us to choose a location that would feel intimate and relaxed, and Michael’s family’s property in the mountains of Estes Park, Colorado felt just right. We had a vision of a ceremony tucked away in the mountains, and a celebration with milkshakes and dancing in a tent under the Colorado stars.
Our wedding was full of so many once-in-a-lifetime moments, but what Michael and I remember most is the overwhelming love and joy that we felt from our friends and family. My uncle performed a beautifully personal inter-faith ceremony, and my youngest brother surprised us with a serenade of “Brown Eyed Girl” on the dance floor.
We had 220 friends and family members make the trek to Colorado (perhaps because a Mormon-Jewish wedding is a once in a lifetime event), and they fully embraced the experience and each other. One of my favorite parts of the weekend were the group hikes through Rocky Mountain National Park that our guests took together the morning of the wedding. Although many of them came to Estes Park as strangers, it felt as though they left as friends (or so I like to think).
We didn’t want a formal bridal party, so I asked my friends and sister to wear dresses in shades of champagne and blush. My sister, and maid of honor, stood beside me during the ceremony and the balance of color and texture in her dress complemented the organic flowers and setting perfectly.
