Wendy and Nigel’s customized wedding was both a reflection of the couple and a memorable experience for the guests—one their family and friends still rave about. Planning gurus, CCL Weddings and Events, helped the couple take advantage of their amazing venue, Malibu Rocky Oaks—a spectacular private estate sitting atop the Malibu Canyons. The helipad was transformed into an intimate wedding ceremony and a family-style dinner was took place the patio next to the infinity pool. Bold florals by Peony and Plum added a vibrant palette but it’s truly the breathtaking view from the venue that makes this one spectacular and lucky for us the couple enlisted the skills of Stewart and Connie Uy to capture it all.
From the bride: When we first started our wedding planning, my husband and I wrote down our top three goals for our wedding to achieve. Number three on my list was: “FUN PARTY.” My vision for my wedding was to have all the guests on the dance floor by the end of the night dancing to the beat of EDM music. In the end we achieved that by customizing aspects of the day.
Our wedding venue started off that high with its sheer wow factor. Malibu Rocky Oaks is a beautiful private estate sitting atop the Malibu Canyons. We transformed the helipad into an intimate wedding ceremony, and took advantage of the patio to have dinner next to the infinity pool. Our guests loved walking around the venue so much that the tables were empty during table greet since people were enjoying the sunset.
To create a personal experience for our guests, we customized our escort cards. We dug through photo books and found pictures of each of our guests, and printed them out as Polaroid pictures. Our guests were so excited to see these pictures of themselves. Some didn’t even know the pictures existed! These cards became fun mementos and a trip down memory lane.
We also spent our attention customizing our food. We wanted to a family style dinner, so our wedding planner hooked us up with a caterer that made amazing Asian fusion dishes to share, and even my husband’s favorite food – fried chicken! Our guests loved that they could try every dish, and not have to eat traditional steak or fish.
We also had yummy custom cocktails our bartender concocted, like “Berry Happy Together” with gin, strawberry, and clementine orange. These were a hit since our guests wanted to try all the specialty cocktails. For dessert, we nixed the traditional cake, and opted for our favorite desserts: boba, pie, and ice cream. When the desserts were announced, our guests ran in madness to different stations grabbing different desserts!
During the dance hour, our MC hyped up the crowd with a dance competition. We also handed out glow stick glasses and necklaces. This got all the Asian guests, traditionally shy on the dance floor, to all boogey down and show off their dance moves. Everyone had so much fun eating, dancing, and celebrating that day. Even now months after our wedding our guests are still raving about the food and what a blast they had!
