I want to become a society lady Rockin' a new rock?!

Noel and Jeff’s whimsical garden wedding is beyond adorable. Set in couple’s hometown of Philadelphia, at the french restaurant Le Cheri, the boho-inspired ceremony took place in the courtyard atop a collection of oriental rugs from the bride’s family. The flower girls threw colorful pom-poms instead of petals and the bridal part consisting of the bride’s 4 sisters and 5 friends wore mix-and-match long gowns. Texture Florals created the bride’s stunning peach rose floral crown, wild bouquet and lovely headpieces on the bridal party and flower girls. The electric blue custom suit worn by Jeff adds a pop of color that we absolutely love. Pat Robinson Photography was behind the lens capturing the day in his signature photo journalistic style which captures all the authentic joy of Noel and Jeff’s big day. We know you guys are going to love it!

from the bride: Jeff proposed to me in NYC while walking around the village. It was a complete surprise, although looking back there were all the signs of a proposal…rose champagne, swanky hotel, romantic brunch and walk. We agreed that night on a small guest list and an intimate garden ceremony.

We live and work in center city Philadelphia. A small city wedding felt right to us. Le Cheri is a classic French restaurant in the Art Alliance building on Rittenhouse Square. The Alliance has rotating galleries throughout the mansion. I have a design background and loved the idea of being immersed in art on my wedding day.

A whimsical and romantic garden wedding was what I envisioned. I hired Pat Robinson Photography to capture the day. I did some research and decided on Pat, a photographer who was different from the norm. He was that and so much more. We were taking photos in wall-papered bathrooms, in alleys, and in the front of nearby buildings that offered the perfect city backdrop, nothing run-of-the-mill. He made us feel at ease yet pushed us to get the right photos.

My mother’s friend Jane Fairorth is a calligrapher and designed the letterpress invitations. I chose a floral envelope liner from a graphic designer on Etsy.

I used my family’s vintage oriental rugs as an aisle on the patio of the restaurant for the ceremony. Our nieces and nephews threw colorful pom poms instead of flower petals. My 4 sisters and 5 best friends were my bridesmaids.

A string band played for the ceremony and cocktail hour. Jeff’s best friend from college married us in a hand-fasting ceremony. We tied our hands together using lace from wedding dresses the women in my family were married in.

I get weekly deliveries from the “flwry,” a floral delivery service, and love the romantic style of their floral arrangements. I begged Nicole to do the flowers for my wedding – it was her first. She made flower arrangements, crowns and garlands.

I wore two Nicole Miller gowns. My best friend from college is a senior designer for Nicole Miller. She designed my party dress and the hand-cut lace kimono I wore over my ceremony gown. The ceremony gown was silk, the party dress was embroidered with sequins and ostrich feathers. I wore gold Manolo Blahnik mules. Jeff wore a custom electric blue suit.

We honeymooned in France and Spain directly afterwards.

Sofia and Ibrahim celebrated their nuptials at Villa Tolomei in picturesque Florence. The bride and groom, who met while working in Dubai, chose Italy for their destination for the food—who doesn’t love Italian food, right?! Sofia planned the entire event herself centering the design around a rich floral theme perfect for the Tuscan vineyard setting. To bring the theme to life, she enlisted florist Funkybird Firenze to create the stunning grape-hued florals in the bouquets, ceremony arbor and centerpieces and Les Amis Photo to captured all the lovely details and moments of the day.

From the bride: Ibrahim and I met in Dubai four years ago at work, I immediately fell for his charm. After 2 and a half years he proposed and just over a year later we got married.

By nature, I am a control freak so decided to plan the whole wedding myself. We chose Italy because we were debating about what food to serve our guests and agreed everyone loves Italian food. To us, Florence is the most romantic city in Italy so we decided to look for a venue there – something in the mountains with a beautiful view but still small enough to keep it intimate.

We chose Villa Tolomei because it ticked all the boxes and their events manager supported me a lot through the whole process. Our florist, Sonja from Funkibird was magical and managed to capture the vibe I was looking for. Alma Project set us up with a wonderful band who played all the classics and our first dance song. The wedding day went perfectly and was captured by some very lovely and talented team from Les Amis Photo.

Catherine and Adam’s elegant Backyard wedding took place at their couple’s own home! The couple decided to celebrate their marriage with a fabulous tent reception on the stunning grounds of their new family home. We’re loving the elegant-yet-casual style that the couple implemented with the help of Elise Schmitz of Toast Events. The reception details are gorgeous from the hundreds of taper candles, to the suspended white floral structures by The Design Co. Florals to the draped linen panels lining the tent. We love the way the design of the candlelit dinner is both incredible lush and totally relaxed at the same time. Check out all the details in these gorgeous images captured by Joel & Justyna.

What made the wedding special and unique?

Adam and I just purchased what we hope will be our forever home and we were able to do both the ceremony and the reception in our very own yard. We purchased a home that was obviously too large for just the two of us, but we purchased it with our future family in mind. If we are lucky, one day when we tell our kids about our wedding and we show them our photos, they will get to see what the house used to looked like. We also don’t know anyone that had their wedding in their own yard. Not too many people get to do that we are so fortunate that we did.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I originally took my mother and mother-in law to look at gowns in New York. I needed something a bit low key as I was just at the very beginning of the process.  I went to With Love Bridal in Kanata on a Wednesday afternoon by myself.  I was paired with the owner of the store who made the experience calming and not too fussy. This was the second dress that I tried on and it was between this dress and another one that I really liked. But it wasn’t until she put on the veil that I decided that this was the one. I liked that it was simple, with a pretty back detail. I didn’t want aggressive beading or shimmer. I just wanted the dress to be pretty and to look like me, and I wanted it to be a timeless that I would still like when I looked back on photos many years later. I also liked that my dress was going to be a surprise to my whole family. I offered to show my mom and bring her subsequent appointments but she agreed that the surprise was better!

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

We had so many! Because we wanted the day to be personal we really paid attention to every detail! Here are some of my favorites!

Walking down the aisle, I hired Adam’s favorite blues singer in town to play during the ceremony and cocktail hour. He learned Mary’s Song (which is really not what he does) just for us. It made both our mothers cry. Also, his raspy voice was just so lovely it would make anything sound romantic and sweet!

Both my husband and I have, or are currently working in the beverage alcohol industry and specifically Canadian Whisky is something that we both have spent the better part of our careers working with. I stumbled upon this adorable tradition called Burry the Bourbon while on Pinterest one day. It’s a southern tradition where that the bride and groom bury a bottle of bourbon upside down on the site of their wedding exactly one month (to the day) before your wedding. This is to ward off any rain. On the wedding day, the groom digs up the bottle and it is shared as the first toast with the bridal party. Given our strong relationship with Canadian whisky – we swapped out the bourbon for a bottle of Wiser’s Red Letter (stellar by the way and the box photographed VERY well). I have to say, even with the swap it worked. It rained the entire week of our wedding with the exception of our actual wedding day. October is a bit of a gamble weather-wise but it was beautiful and sunny.

In addition to not loving the idea of speaking in public, I am also a ugly-crier at best and didn’t think I could get through a thank you speech without crying. And really no one wants a photo of that!  So instead of long, drawn out speech Adam and I individually wrote thank-yous to each of our guests. Guests were assigned seats at dinner and a personalized message was written to each person thanking them for the contribution that they had made to our lives and taped underneath their seats. At speech time, instead of the bride and groom toasting each other we toasted to our family and friends and asked them too look under their seats.

The Cigar Roller!  My husband LOVES cigars and Whisky. Since we have been together a long time we had already exchanged the classic gifts like watches, and cuff links etc.  As his gifts, I brought in Frank Correnti from Toronto to do cigar rolling for our guests. I even had little matchboxes made with the initial of our last name to make it a bit more special. The leftover boxes now sit atop a whisky barrel that we got as a gift in our home.

Our Give away: In my spare time, I write a tiny little blog called Whisky and Champagne.  In a very small homage to that, we gave away Whisky and Champagne bottles to our guests as a thank you. We had little tags printed that said “Poppin’ Bottles with Mr. and Mrs. Bolek.”

What was the most memorable part of the day?

For me, the most memorable part of the day was having my brother do the ceremony. Adam and I actually got legally married the weekend before, leaving the ceremony available for us to do whatever we wanted. It was quick and very sweet and a bit emotional (honestly – to this day I have no idea how I didn’t cry) and we were so lucky to have someone that loved us so much performing the ceremony.

For Adam, he will say hands down the dinner. The food was straight up spectacular. Adam and I wanted to mix elegant and casual as much as possible as that is very much who we are. We are the type of people that will go to a black tie dinner on a Friday and then drive up to a friend’s cottage on Saturday and spend the weekend in flannel and jeans. So our guests wore black tie, but we served family style BBQ. SWAY band was amazing and created the perfect tempo for the meal; people were laughing and having a great time.  It felt like a fancy family dinner.  We tried to cut out a lot of the formality of a wedding. So we just had a 2 minute welcome speech and our speech and that’s it. We also opted out of a formal cake cutting and chose to do it off to the side unannounced instead. I did not toss a bouquet and we didn’t do the garter toss. Instead we did dueling Champagne fountains.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

Adam and I met when we were 8. Our parents have been best friends for years and we even vacationed together when we were young. In truth, it was not love at first sight. In fact, we didn’t really even start spending too much time together until we were teens. Although we both admit that the flirting started then and continued throughout university. It was not until well after university that we really started dating. We actually didn’t even tell our parents for a solid 6 months because we didn’t want them to get their hopes up (as we had no idea if this would work out or not).

Adam and I got engaged 2 years ago at our annual Christmas party. Every year (except this year – we had a wedding instead) we host a party that usually brings in about 40-60 of our friends to enjoy in the Christmas cheer. Adam had my ring made in Toronto and a friend of ours was bringing the ring to Ottawa that day. Adam had actually been planning the engagement for a long time and was planning on proposing the next day. But Adam has never been very good at waiting to give gifts; he just has never been able to do it – I generally get my Christmas gift at the beginning of December because the thought of holding onto it for a month seems silly to him. He had wanted to propose the next day after all the chaos of the party had settled and he wanted us to be in PJ’s having a coffee and cuddling on the couch avoiding cleaning up. But in true Adam style, I think he had the ring in his pocket for about a half hour before he popped the question. We were in the kitchen doing dishes before guests arrived and he just couldn’t wait. He also surprised me with a vacation to St. Lucia and our flight was the next day. So we enjoyed the evening with our friends with some Christmas cheer and then spent a week on the beach.

Next up we’re sharing another wedding from the talented team over at Michael Costa + Anna Costa Photography. It’s fun to see how a photographer shoot different styles and this classic country club wedding is totally different from the relaxed Hawaiian vibe of the previous post captured by the same photographers. Leslie and Scott were married at Riviera Mansion/University Club in Santa Barbara. The ceremony had to be moved indoors due to weather, but the resulting vows in front of the fireplace just added to the overall vibe. We’re loving the classic details like the bride’s lace Matthew Christopher gown and all the gorgeous florals by Anna Le Pley Taylor. Check out these details and more in the lovely images by Michael Costa + Anna Costa Photography.

What made the wedding special and unique?

Scott and I live in San Diego, but we always talked about having our wedding in Santa Barbara. We wanted our wedding to have a smalltown intimate feeling, where everyone would feel like one big family. My mom was the one who actually found our venue online and after viewing it in person, we knew it was the perfect place for us to get married. Even when my plans for an outside ceremony were canceled due to rain, we moved it into the living room in front of the fireplace which turned out more perfect than I could have ever imagined.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

My gown was Matthew Christopherand I found it at Mon Amie Bridal Salon in Costa Mesa. I was set on finding a dress with cap sleeves and after trying on a few that just weren’t right for me, my dress stylist at Mon Amie asked me to try on a dress she had picked out for me. After trying it on, she said she initially hid it from me because she didn’t want me to dismiss it automatically as it was strapless. Not only did it fit me like a glove, but it made me feel sexy and elegant. The paisley lace was unlike anything I had ever seen and stood out beautifully against the mocha underlay. I also fell in love with the buttons that went all the way down my train.

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

We created an area in the foyer to pay homage to our parents. Both couples are still married – a rarity these days. Our parents mean a great deal to us, and we wanted to thank them for always being supportive, loving, and a great example of what a successful marriage looks like. Another personal touch for me was the bear charm I sewed onto my garter. Scott and my step daughter Leigha’s nickname for me is Bear, so having the charm made it feel like I had them close to me all day.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

There were many memorable moments throughout the day, but the one that stands out is our ‘first look.’ It was an amazing moment to have with Scott, and I think we were more emotional here than we were at the actual ceremony!

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

We were introduced by a mutual friend. We laugh now because we can remember parties we were both at and never met!

Scott proposed to me at Basic, a restaurant in downtown San Diego. This restaurant has a special meaning in both of our hearts because it is where I told Scott I loved him for the first time. After dinner, he took me to the exact spot in front of the restaurant where I had told him I loved him and got down on one knee. I was so surprised – it was such a wonderful, surreal moment. Because no one else was around at the time, it truly felt like we were the only two people in the world at that moment. In fact, we ended up taking a photo in front of a firehouse because the firemen were the only people around!

What made the wedding special and unique?

Definitely the venue! The Castle at Rockwall had so much to offer, it really was a no-brainer! And something that made it very special to me personally, was having one of my best friends and bridesmaids doing my makeup and another bridesmaid’s mother doing all of the coordinating. My bridesmaid, Gabrielle, made me feel like the prettiest girl in the world that day, and she killed it on my hairstyle! And Cindy, our wedding coordinator handled every detail perfectly. I would have been lost without these two on my wedding day!

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

I was not at all expecting to buy a dress that day, but we walked into Mockingbird Bridal in Dallas and it was right there in front of me on a mannequin and I said that’s it! I want to try that on first! And of course I loved it, but everyone else wanted me to keep trying things on, but I put that dress back on at the end of the appointment and told them to ring it up! That was my dress and I simply fell in love with it!

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

The personal touches were all over the place for me, I picked out everything and I made all of the decisions. But the flowers were pretty personal to me; my grandmother who passed away this year and her daughter (my aunt) loved flowers and bright colors. So when I looked at the flowers, it made me think of the ones I love. And Lizzie Bees did an amazing job making my requests come to life!

What was the most memorable part of the day?

The most memorable part of the day was probably right when Austin and I sat down to eat, and both looked at each other and said Phew! That went way better than we thought it would! We were both so stressed out trying to get everything done and it still amazes us how perfectly everything went! We loved every minute of seeing everyone we loved in the same room and we are so grateful for all of the amazing people in our lives.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

Austin and I met while I was at Texas A&M getting my bachelors degree. He was up visiting with my bridesmaid Gabrielle’s now husband. We have been inseparable since then! My proposal was the biggest surprise ever, and I am a “surprise ruiner” so I do not know how he pulled this off. He proposed after the finale of the huge firework show my uncle and my cousins put on every 4th of July. He really did an amazing job, and my family can be a little intimidating sometimes so I was truly shocked! I, of course, said yes! And I have honestly never felt so special than I did that day, up until my wedding day!
