Real Weddings:
Taylor and Tom’s wedding at the Georgia State Railroad Museum
photography by The Happy Bloom
When Taylor and Tom’s wedding planner, Design Studio South, asked the couple what they love most about each other Taylor replied “His spontaneity and the never-ending ability to make me laugh.” While Tom said “How beautiful she looks when she laughs.” So adorable, right? And they celebrated their eternal adorableness with a blush + navy soirée in Savannah at the Georgia State Railroad Museum. Gorgeous florals from A to Zinnias punctuated the look and subtle nods to Tom’s love of the sea added personality. Lucky for us, The Happy Bloom, was behind the lens and we get to enjoy all the their beautiful photos of the day!
How they met: We met in downtown Savannah on Halloween in 2013 among a group of friends. It just so happened that we had the same mutual friends for a long time and never ran into each other until then. He asked me on our first date the very next night, and we were inseparable ever since.
Prepping for the wedding day: We were engaged on December 23, 2014. He had just been promoted to Captain within his company and asked me out to celebrate. After dinner, we went to the Pink House in downtown Savannah to have a drink followed by a walk through the squares. When we reached Reynolds Square, Tom got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We decided to get married a year and a half later in May 2016, when I would be done with my semester. However, within a couple months of getting engaged, we had already decided on a venue and a wedding planner. Springtime in Savannah doesn’t allow for procrastination!
The Wedding Day: The Big Day could not have been anymore perfect. We were married in the Blacksmith’s Shop at the Georgia Railroad Museum followed by the reception held in the Machine Shop. The atmosphere was very rustic and elegant with some nautical touches to represent Tom’s profession. Our must-have food items were shrimp and grits, and crab cakes. We did an assortment of cupcakes for dessert, but our cake was almond with white icing. We finished the night dancing to a ten piece band and exiting with a bubbles send off and our own horse and carriage!
The Honeymoon: We flew to Costa Rica the following the week and stayed at Los Suenos Marina and Resort. Some of the activities included a boat ride through the mangroves to find monkeys, and an ATV tour to a waterfall. We spent time at the hotel La Mariposa that has beautiful views of the bays below it, and spent time at the black sand beach, Hermosa. Plenty of time was spent at the club pool, because who doesn’t love a huge pool with a swim-up bar? It was perfect, and there were so many more activities to do that we are already trying to plan a trip back.
Suggestions for other brides: If there is any advice I can give other brides it is this: get a wedding planner! Even if it is just for the day of your wedding. I could not have asked for a smoother and more relaxed wedding day thanks to the amazing people that made it happen.
