Denver couple, Elizabeth and Rory, had a clear vision for the ambience and design of their Florence wedding day and with the help of destination wedding planner Nomad Republic, they were able to create their perfect day. The intimate affair was held at Villa La Vedetta and featured a garden ceremony filled with bohemian floral elements by Julie Guittard Fleuriste followed by a romantic family-style dinner al fresco overlooking the city. Anticipate Invitations set the tone with whimsical paper pieces while the couple highlighted their location with details like Italian ceremony music and Cassia Vetus‘ gelato cart. Aberrazioni Cromatiche Studio was on had to capture both the the lovely couple, their beautiful day and, of course, the breathtaking beauty of Florence.
From the planner: From the very beginning, the couple had a clear idea of what they envisioned with regard to ambiance, design and style of their Florence intimate affair. They hired Nomad Republic, a duo of destination wedding specialists for Italy and France to help them plan and design their dream wedding.
Doing films for a living, picking the right photographer and videographer was a big decision for the bride. She chose Aberrazioni Cromatiche Studio for their classic, candid approach to photography but also because she loved the sense of place in their images, as well as the mix of close up and grand, wide photos that defines their style.
Incorporating a local accent into their wedding was another important element to them and so, they requested that traditional tunes would be played by their musicians during the ceremony. For desserts, they opted for a millefoglie cake in lieu of a wedding cake and decided to have Florentine gelati served from a vintage cart after dinner, which was definitely one of the wedding highlights.
Aside from incorporating a local accent into their food, Elizabeth & Rory wanted to make sure their passed loved ones would be remembered and had this idea of creating a photo area where they could display framed pictures of their family members.
Regarding Elizabeth & Rory’s design, there were so many elements for Nomad Republic to pull from the couple’s love story. For example, the fact that Rory is Elizabeth’s yelling alarm clock throughout the house since she has trouble getting out of bed in the morning. In reference to that, they purchased megaphones to be used as props for their photo booth as well as a custom-made sign that read: “there is no sound better than love”.
For their wedding color palette and florals, they pulled inspiration from the bride’s meteorites collection and created a classic/retro design with a touch of whimsy.
Julie Guittard, their florist, created a lush, organic floral decor in a palette of whites, greens, soft and darker pinks. She used Juliet roses — the bride’s favorite, dahlia, limonium, nigella and astrantia to give her arrangements a just-picked feel. Pampa grass, European smoke tree and crimson fountain grass were used for texture but also greeneries such as olive branches, eucalyptus and ruscus. Delphinium was added to give height to the whole.
Anticipate Invitations created the most perfect invitation suite and wedding day stationery for the couple, marrying both Elizabeth & Rory’s tastes in a whimsically romantic, Wes Anderson-style. The artist also pulled inspiration from the venue, using the trimmed hedges found from the villa’s garden on the detail card. The response card was designed as a postcard and featured a more detailed gouache painting of the villa, including the gelati cart that made an appearance on the wedding day. A frosted vellum band with their initials held everything together and vintage postage stamps in the suite’s color palette were placed on the kraft envelope.
