I want to become a society lady Rockin' a new rock?!

Ali married Drew and his beautiful son Jack in an intimate ceremony at a vintage South Carolina inn, along the ocean. According to 3E8 Photography there wasn’t a dry eye at Pawleys Pelican Inn when the couple professed their vows. Ali, a design graduate, had a specific vision for the couple’s day and enlisted the help of planner Smells Like Peonies Events to execute her vision. The details include dusty-hued florals by Willow Event Designs that are a total embodiment of the wedding aesthetic—relaxed romance with subtle vintage boho vibes. Illustration and stationery design were by the bride and a show-piece cake was by Incredible Edible Cakes. The rainy day was punctuated by a break in the clouds for a spectacular sunset and 3E8 Photography captured it along with all the moments of the day in these images.

What made the wedding special and unique?

From the photographer-  All of the details were designed and styled by Ali, executed by a WONDERFUL wedding coordinator, and came together like a fine art masterpiece. She married Drew and his beautiful son Jack in an intimate ceremony at a vintage South Carolina Inn, along the ocean. They wrote their own vows and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. It rained for most of the day, but the sun broke in the evening to reveal one of the most intense sunsets I have ever seen! The venue was a personal favorite of mine. It was a vintage inn on Pawley’s Island South Carolina. The venue featured original, beautifully worn-in wooden floors and a wrap around porch that was so quintessentially southern. Everything about the wedding exuded charm and intimacy, providing the perfect platform for the showcasing of love and celebrating with the closest of friends and family.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

From the bride- The dress I got from Tie The Knot Bridal Couture Collections in Naples, FL. As a designer I was very hesitant to go into a bridal store and have to work with someone who pulls gowns for you. However, I was also nervous to purchase anything online for fear of return policies, etc. Time was ticking and I made an appointment last minute when visiting my mom in Naples. She wasn’t able to be with my sister when she picked her wedding dress so I knew it would make her happy to have an appointment she could be at. The girl that ran the shop understood my style from the few pictures I showed her and I ended up falling in love with the 3rd dress I tried on. I actually picked it more for my fiance than I did for me. It showed more curves than I am used to showing but I knew it was flattering and he would like it on me. I loved the back of the dress and felt very romantic in it. My mom loved it as well which sealed the deal.

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

From the bride – Every detail was crucial in helping us achieve the aesthetic and vibe that we were striving for. Brian was on board from the start and super supportive of our vision. He understood that we not only wanted him to come and take photos of us and our family, we wanted him to capture the entire feeling of ‘our day’. Brian not only delivered what we had wanted, he went above and beyond my highest expectations. I was up the night before the wedding working on the set-up details, things that I thought of last minute that I didn’t get a chance to tell Brian about beforehand. However, when we received our pictures after the wedding I saw that Brian could see it all without me having to point anything out. His eye for detail is excellent. Brian captured the mood, the details, the emotion, our friends, and our family perfectly.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

From the photographer – The most memorable parts of the day, for me, occurred at the very beginning and very end of the wedding. I walked into a venue that I had never before photographed, with a bride that I had only had the chance to speak to on the phone. What I was greeted with was something so beautiful, so quaint, and so vintage charming that I can only hope to return to that venue again and work with more brides whose lives are entrenched in the arts. Being trusted to capture something that was so personal to someone was a wonderful privilege for me. Well, I lied. I have another favorite part of the day – the vows. The vows were handwritten and just beautiful to witness. I teared up behind camera and was overcome with the emotion, practically spilling from the tiny room in which the ceremony took place. It was beautiful. Lastly, the sunset. It was cloudy and rainy all day, but the sun peaked through the clouds right toward the end of toasts, basking the venue in this intense, golden glow. I quickly stole the couple out for some sunset portraits and they became my favorite shots of the day.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

From the Bride – I met Drew when my sister, Katie, began dating his brother, Anthony (they are now married). Katie and I lived together in NYC and Anthony was living abroad in London at the time. Whenever Anthony made it to NYC, Drew would take the opportunity to see his brother and visit as well. We got to spend some time together and quickly our relationship turned romantic. After two years of long distance, I moved to Pittsburgh to be with Drew and his son Jack. Drew proposed a little less than a year later. He got down on one knee at the same time as The Bachelor in the final episode. I thought he was mocking the show, as he often does, and didn’t take him seriously until I saw the ring!

Vanessa and Justin celebrated with a wedding in Mexico that “felt like a vacation with all of our favorite people!” The Cape, one of our favorite Cabo venues, offers views of downtown and El Arco, with a chic, contemporary vibe. Lynette Dow with Amy Abbot Events planned the day which included modern florals and decor that enhanced the stunning views and atmosphere of the venue while personalized details like graphic letterpress invitations by Hyegraph Invitations & Calligraphy, a short and sweet ceremony by the sea and fireworks made the night that much more special. Mexico is a special place for us and we loved that our wedding felt like a vacation with all of our favorite people!  The rooftop of The Cape has views of downtown Cabo San Lucas and El Arco, making it a stunning and unique place for a wedding.

I went to a dress shop by myself while out of town and fell in love with the gown’s Josephine embroidery and silhouette. The designer is Atelier Pronovias.

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

We were really detailed when picking the music and that made the ceremony and reception feel personal. The DJ was awesome and we didn’t leave the dance floor all night long! Instead of traditional centerpieces and the standard wedding look, we wanted modern flowers and decor that would enhance the stunning views and atmosphere. Our florist totally captured our vision – the orchids and succulents were the perfect compliment the beautiful venue. Having our favorite snacks as late-night food was also a fun personal touch!

What was the most memorable part of the day?

It’s really hard to choose what was most memorable but we both loved the fireworks and the dancing. Justin had forgotten about the fireworks so that was a really fun surprise for him!  The ceremony is a special memory – it was short and sweet and made us both laugh and cry. We also have great memories of the heartfelt speeches from family and friends. The service at The Cape was excellent and we will always remember how special they made our guests and us feel that day.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

We were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend. We didn’t know anything about each other and no pictures were exchanged beforehand so neither one of us knew what to expect but it ended up being a great first date! As far as getting engaged, Justin made big plans for our 1-year anniversary – drinks at the same place we had our first date, followed by dinner at a secret location, and a proposal at the end of the night. But things didn’t go according to plan. The day before the planned proposal,  Justin took the ring out of his safe and it started “burning a hole in his pocket” so he drove over to Vanessa’s house and jumped the gun by proposing out of nowhere. It was definitely a spontaneous proposal!  We celebrated our engagement with a vacation to Cabo!

You know the vibes are going to be rad when the bride tops her Grace Loves Lace gown with a custom painted leather jacket. Yep—Natalie wins! And her wedding to Caleb at New Orlean’s Race and Religious is just as cool as the painted palms on her jacket. Planned by Southern Couture Weddings, the details include vibrant florals by Root Floral Design, custom illustrated invitations by Scriptura, a courtyard wedding and an intimate dinner under the cafe lights. And what would a New Orlean’s wedding be without a second line? Natalie and Caleb enlisted Caitlin B. Photo to capture their celebratory walk and all the other details of their big day.

What made the wedding special and unique?

Our venue, Race and Religious, was very unique and it really inspired the decisions we made. The wedding turned out to be the garden party of my dreams! The ceremony was held in the main courtyard with a seated dinner to follow. We ate under rows of string lights and were surrounded by brightly colored tropical flowers. I loved that our venue allowed us to have the wedding and reception all in the same place. We actually got ready and spent the night there, too! We also decided not to have a bridal party and our final headcount was 60 guests. It allowed our ceremony to be very intimate and it was important for us to be able to spend time with every guest and that’s exactly what we were able to do!

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

The first time I saw my wedding dress was on Pinterest, I wasn’t engaged but I was OBSESSED. After discovering that the dress designer was located in Australia I decided to follow their instagram account, @graceloveslace, and when the day came to go dress shopping I would attempt to find something similar. A few months later they announced that they were opening their first American store located in Venice Beach! The week after we got engaged my mom and I booked flights to LA and made an appointment at the store. The very first dress I tried on, which ended up being the one, was the exact dress I had seen on Pinterest over a year before! The dress, veil, earrings, and shoes were all Grace Loves Lace. It was so surreal to be standing in the mirror and looking at myself in my dream dress, and I loved that my mom and I have that memory together!

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

Throughout the entire process I worked with Hannah Trahan at Southern Couture Weddings to ensure we incorporated Caleb’s and my personalities and story into different parts of the day. We focused on making the seated dinner really special for our guests by customizing the entire menu and the place settings along with tablescape to feel formal yet comfortable. The band from my hometown wowed my guests throughout the night; they learned songs specifically for our wedding that were special to us. I had a custom leather jacket hand painted with palm leaves that I threw on over my dress for the end reception and for our second line exit.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

The first look really was such a special part of our day. I was strongly against doing one for months but once we started working out timing details I realized that Caleb and I wouldn’t have had any time to take pictures together while the sun was still up. So we opted for doing a first look, and I am so glad that we did. I love that we had a quiet moment to enjoy each other because the rest of the night slipped by so quickly!

Caleb and I met studying abroad in Paris during the Summer of 2014. I only knew one person on the trip and Caleb knew no one! A few weeks into the trip we bonded over the fact that we are both self proclaimed foodies. We decided weren’t going to continue eating the horrible food in the hostel cafeteria and from that point on we went to dinner together every single night for the rest of the summer. About 3 years later Caleb and I went back to Europe on a multi city trip to celebrate his grad school graduation. Paris was our third stop on the trip, and we had already been in Europe for over a week, so I truly didn’t think he would actually hold out or hold on to a ring in a foreign country for that many days. To my surprise he did both and we got engaged in Paris where we met.

Sue and Mike’s wedding at The Cree Estate was a reflection of themselves— laid back, welcoming, and fun-loving. Planner, Just Merried Events, helped them achieve the look and gave the couple’s guests the feelings they’d hoped for— relaxed, and ready to let loose and party. Joyful details with a subtle boho-flair dress the event and the tropical-inspired florals by Violette’s Flowers are totally scene-stealing. After the farm-to-table dinner, Sue and Mike kicked off the dance party with a confetti toss and ended the night with surprise silent disco (complete with light-up headsets.) We totally love the vibes and lucky for us, Inner Song Photography was on hand to capture it all.

What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?

We planned our wedding to reflect our MO – laid back, welcoming, and fun-loving! We wanted people to feel relaxed, to let loose, and party. This mindset is also how we chose our vendors, who all shared our vision and were so easy to work with. We cut out a lot of traditional wedding formalities to curate a wedding really true to us as a couple.

Our ceremony was officiated by a dear friend and we kept the mood light with personalized stories and vows. We wanted to pay tribute to our Chinese heritage, so we sealed our union with a tea ceremony, in which we combined two different flavors of tea into one. Continuing the tea trend, we had made-to-order boba served during cocktail hour.

For our reception, we wanted it to feel like a giant dinner party! We chose family style with delicious/unique farm-to-table food. Our guests loved the family style! We both love good music and dancing and we are lucky our friends/family feel the same way. It was so much fun dancing the night away with everyone. We kicked off the dance party with a confetti toss and ended the night with surprise silent disco (complete with light-up headsets).  I can’t believe we had a 4 hour dance party!

What was the most memorable part of the day?

So many magical moments, but my favorite was when we sneaked away for 15 mins at the end of cocktail hour to enjoy the sunset together. We watched as the sky filled with golden and pink hues over our reception space – and it was the perfect QT we needed before the night started.

Our story began in medical school. I was training for a half-marathon and not-so-coincidentally Michael picked up a lot of interest in running. Although we were “just friends”, we found ourselves spending more and more time together on morning jogs, study sessions, and late night fro-yo dates. Finally after a year of hanging out, we made it official. The signs were all there but if you ask Michael, it was definitely a chase!

Michael proposed at our favorite beach during golden hour, followed with a surprise celebration with our best friends in downtown LA.

Bright, natural, elegant and effortless—these are the words Carolina and Ethan gravitated to in early discussions of what they wanted their wedding to feel like. The couple enlisted Michel B. Events to create a day at Ojai Valley Inn filled with mixed wood textures, greens, linens and warm metals like copper and rose gold. The vibrant reception florals by Rockrose were inspired by the bride’s childhood home in Santiago, Chile and a fun, illustrated invitation suite by Nooney Art and La Happy Design set the joyful tone. Michelle Beller was behind the lens, all over the grounds of the venue, capturing the lovely couple and their fresh, romantic wedding day.

What made the wedding special and unique?

When we talked about what we wanted our wedding to feel like, we gravitated toward words like bright, natural, elegant and effortless. We wanted the wedding to feel like it represented us. And having been to many weddings as guests, we both knew what we didn’t like – anything opulent or stuffy was definitely out. That’s how we arrived at the mix of wood, greens, linens and warm metals like copper and rose gold. Lighting was also key. We wanted to achieve a warm and cozy glow for Friday’s event, and a brighter, though still soft and romantic feeling for Saturday.

The colors were inspired by the bride’s childhood home in Santiago, Chile. Nine months before the wedding, we walked through her father’s beautiful garden and picked flowers, trying different combinations. What became clear was that we preferred the vibrancy of a Spanish garden to the pastels that are widely used.

To have so many friends and family coming together, many from long distances, we wanted our guests to feel that each space was inviting and comfortable. We wanted people to be able to sit and talk and feel at home, hence the sofas on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

My dress Saturday was Inbal Dror. I wore Saint Laurent shoes and a pair of vintage rose gold and diamond drop earrings.

Deciding on the flower girl dresses was actually one of the hardest decisions we had to make! We knew we wanted something classic and simple. After searching for months, we finally settled on these cute seersucker dresses.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

We wanted our ceremony to be as intimate, authentic and personal as possible. To that end, we wrote our own vows, chose meaningful readings, and invited our mothers to light a candle symbolizing the union of our families. The officiant was Ethan’s best friend, who also lives in Los Angeles.

Our favorite part of the day was the ceremony. Standing under the majestic oak tree, surrounded by friends and family, promising to love each other for the rest of our lives – that was truly magical. A close second would be our first dance. The band played a gorgeous version of Colin Hay’s “Waiting for My Real Life to Begin,” and all the practice we’d put in paid off. We nailed it!

Also, Marilyn Stillman, aka “Nanny,” the groom’s 93-year-old grandmother, flew across the country from Boston, and Ethan walked with her down the aisle. This was one of the most special moments of the whole weekend.

Tell us how you met and became engaged?

Both of us had been waiting for the right person to come into our lives, and when we met, we instantly knew that this was unlike anything we had experienced before. It was also the perfect moment; Carolina was consulting at a non-profit in downtown Los Angeles and Ethan was writing a pilot for ABC, which means we had the time and energy to prioritize and really get to know each other. Within a few weeks, we knew that this relationship could last the rest of our lives. And two happy years later, having fallen in love with each other and each other’s families, Ethan proposed under a gorgeous, red sunset in magical Sedona, Arizona.
