Lindsay and Jason’s airy, beach wedding is proof an unexpected mixing of styles is often the key to a beautiful and unique wedding vibe. From the slinky Jenny Pakham gown to the deep red lips, we love the way the bride rocked a deco-glam look on the beach. Her radiance shines amidst an otherwise dreamy, white and gray palette. Thankfully Jessica Jessica Bordner Photography
was on hand to capture some seriously gorgeous portraits.
What made the wedding special and unique?
Considering the Keys were being pounded with rain the entire weekend, I still don’t now how we were able to stay dry for the ceremony and for pictures. It was truly a miracle. It started to pour down rain the minute we got inside for the reception, it was such a blessing! We are from Charleston, South Carolina, so it was so much fun to get away to Key Largo with our closest family members and friends. We kept the wedding to 50ish guests and I wouldn’t change anything about it. It was so intimate and fun. We didn’t feel like we had to “make the rounds”, we just naturally were able to have fun and hang out with each of our family members and friends.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it.
When I thought of the perfect wedding dress, I wanted “Great Gatsby” meets “Greek Goddess”. And the dress I picked couldn’t have been any more perfect. I bought the dress from a boutique in Charleston, South Carolina, called White. Jody, the owner, is an absolutely amazing fireball of a woman. She talks to you and tries to figure out your personality and your preference right when you walk in (champagne in hand, of course). She lets you walk around the store and pick out your favorites and at the same time she’s tossing gowns in your dressing room and tells you just to “try them on!”. And thank God she did! She picked out the dress I ended up buying. She really knows how to pick for a bride. It was probably the 5th dress I tried on, and I knew immediately, no questions asked! We took the plunging neck line even further down, and that is honestly what MADE the dress!
What was the most memorable part of the day?
Spending time with Jason before the wedding for our first look was perfect. It gives you that time to be alone and comfortable before all the madness ensues, ha. One of the best moments was when the ceremony was over, we walked away to have a moment. In the meantime, Jess, the photographer, had everyone from the wedding lined up to take a group picture and as we walked back in and saw all the faces we love so much in a huge group just smiling at us, it was an unforgettable feeling. Makes me tear up thinking about it.
Tell us how you met and became engaged?
We’ve actually know each other since I was in high school. I was a sophomore, and he was a sophomore in COLLEGE! Jason was the cousin of one of my closest guy friends in high school, so we met through him and immediately were attracted to each other. We dated a couple months but it didn’t last long because the parents were not happy about me dating a guy in college. Junior year of high school, he was my prom date! We completely lost touch after graduating, I moved away, traveled, and he stayed in Charleston. In 2011 I came back into town to visit family and we had mutual friends in town at the same time. We ended up spending a night out in the same group, and it was an INSTANT re-connection. It was crazy, and so so unexpected. I went back to NY and we stayed in touch for 4 months; the next thing I remember was moving back to Charleston and him making me one of the happiest girls on earth. We were together 4 years before he proposed, but I was ready long before that because I just knew. Even though I knew he bought a ring, it was still so unexpected. And he dropped the bomb on me right before we were leaving the house to go out for dinner. He nonchalantly took the ring out of his pocket and said “Hey, take that ring off and maybe try this one on.” Just the two of us and our cat in our house together, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! He asked me to marry him and I never dreamed of being as happy as I was to hear those words come out of his mouth!
