What made the wedding special and unique?
I think our wedding was a true reflection of our personalities and our relationship. Our team of vendors was truly amazing with injecting our wedding with details that are personal and show the love Bobby and I have for one another. Our closest friends and family were present and we had a huge turn out of out-of-towners from London, HK, Canada, NY, Taiwan that all came to celebrate with us. We had so much fun because it really was very true to who we are.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
I actually shopped around a lot for my dress and probably took the longest time. I started my search in NY where I live and knew that I didn’t want a lace/sweetheart dress that a lot of girls were wearing. I fell in love with many dresses and had a hard time choosing. When I went home to visit family in LA, I realized that I needed my mom’s opinion. We went to a little boutique in South Pasadena Called Ivory Suite and found my dress. It was beaded up top and the bodice and dress made of Moroccan silk. When I put it on, I fell in love with how it flowed and how beautiful i felt.
I also wore my mom’s wedding dress as a surprise for the father daughter dance and her Chinese dress for the tea ceremony :)
What were some touches added to make it personal?
I had both my mom and my dad walk me down the aisle. I felt that it was important for both of them to be with me and more symbolic of them “giving” me away together. Our cocktail hour had a “NY Central Park” theme in honor of where we met and chose to name each table after a location in NY. We love beer pong and were able to incorporate it into our cocktail hour along with our “signature” drinks- Tiffany Tonic and Bobby Bubbles. We also had fun facts about our relationship on tables so our guests could pick up and read about us. Also, I was able to create and design my own invitations, menus, programs and any signs that were in the wedding.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
This is such a hard question because I feel like the whole day was so memorable! Looking back, I will always remember the kiss (after the pastor announced “you may now kiss the bride”) just because Bobby would tease me beforehand about how he would only peck me since so many people were watching.. he’s not big on PDA…but he really gave me a huge and very sweet kiss. The other huge memorable part was the father daughter dance! My dad is so cute and took dance lessons months before the wedding. He really wanted to make it a special moment with me.
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
I was invited by a friend from Parsons to a birthday party before buckling down to study for finals. I met Bobby, who may or may not have had several birthday drinks already and who also, may or may not really remember meeting me. But throughout the night, Bobby was following me around without even realizing it. As luck would have it, at the end of the night, our mutual friend lost her brand new leather jacket and believed that one of Bobby’s friends took it by mistake. She and I went back to Bobby’s apartment to see if someone had it. Unfortunately, no leather jacket was found but as a night cap, pizza was provided. Bobby and I started talking and he invited us back to his apartment the next night for a dinner party. Over the next few months, we kept talking, hanging out and finally Bobby asked me to officially be his girlfriend.
How we became engaged:
After 4 years of dating and some long talks with our parents on how serious our relationship was, both our parents wanted to meet each other. Bobby’s parents were going to fly to LA to meet mine. The week before we left to meet them in LA, Bobby had to go to SF for a work trip and asked me to meet him there for a work function before we flew down. Bobby set up a surprise picnic at the Golden Gate Park, hired a photographer to hide in the bushes, and got down on one knee and proposed. I am not going to lie, I knew it was coming since he was really nervous and acted strangely but he was super thoughtful in the whole process and very sweet. Later that night, we celebrated with our families in LA :)
