Laura and Noah hail from Brooklyn, but the city of Austin Texas has become very special to the couple. So, they celebrated their love for each other, and for Austin, by inviting all of their family and friends to a wedding weekend in the city they love. Inspired by all their favorite things about Austin, the couple threw a relaxed celebration filled with TexMex and live music. Not to mention some pretty spectacular florals! Q Weddings was on hand to capture all of the beautiful details of Laura and Noah’s lovely day.
What made the wedding special and unique?
We really wanted a relaxed wedding where everyone would have a great time!! We didn’t want anything to feel overly formal. We live in Brooklyn and Noah introduced me to Austin. Over the years it has become a really special place for us. We wanted our wedding weekend to provide an opportunity to share some of our favorite things about Austin– the Hill Country, great food and great live music. Over the course of the weekend we had three different bands perform (including a mariachi band and a jazz grass band!) and were able to serve Texas barbecue TexMex, interior Mexican, great food from our favorite food truck and amazing pies for dessert! Having our friend, Stephen, marry us and having my cousin, Emily, sing at our ceremony (she wrote a song about us!!) helped to make the day feel more personal.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
I found my dress at Vera Wang in Boston. I happened to be visiting Boston with my Mom and sister, Rebecca so we shopped on Newbury street. I only tried on 5 or 6 dresses before finding the one I loved.
What were some touches added to make it personal?
We really love Austin and had so much fun making our wedding personal. Our favorite touches were probably our cocktail band, MilkDrive, who we love and the cocktail hour food served by East Side Kings. Bringing some of our Austin favorites to our closest friends and family was such a treat. I also give all the aesthetic credit to the talented Emily Leach and her team at Bird Dog Weddings. With just a little direction from me, Emily created beautiful details and florals and was full of creative ideas.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
The ceremony. Our friend Stephen performed our ceremony. It was incredibly personal and relaxed and we just loved it. The day went by so quickly but we really enjoyed every minute of the ceremony!
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
We actually met at work. We don’t work at the same company any more but that is how we first met. We knew each other for several years before we ever went on a date! We got engaged in DUMBO Brooklyn, right near our apartment. Noah proposed at the base of the marble stairs in Brooklyn Bridge Park, overlooking the Manhattan skyline and beneath the Brooklyn Bridge.
