Real Weddings:
Bailey and Landon’s wedding in Rancho Santa Fe
featuring Shane and Lauren Photography
Cincinnati couple, Bailey and Landon, invited their family and friends to travel with them to Rancho Santa Fe, California to celebrate their nuptials at the bride’s family’s estate. Planned by White Lace Events, the details paid homage to the property— from Bailey’s modern take on a Spanish lace on her Hayley Page gown, to the hand-painted escort tiles, to the orange blossoms incorporated into the stunning florals by Compass Floral. With its coral palette and customized details at every turn, this wedding offers unending inspiration and it’s all captured beautifully by Shane and Lauren Photography.
What made the wedding special and unique?
Landon: The aspect of our wedding that we appreciated most was the intimate setting in which we brought our families together for the first time. Having the wedding at the bride’s family’s property allowed us to create a beautiful, unique and personal atmosphere for everyone to meet, celebrate and enjoy the time together. White Lace immediately understood this vision and worked tirelessly to bring it to fruition and it was executed perfectly. We could not have been happier to bring our families together for the first time on that beautiful day.
Bailey: Like Landon mentioned, the most special part of the wedding for me was that it was a great chance for our families to meet each other and spend time together in a location that is obviously very special to me/my family in particular. Growing up we spent many vacations at the house in Rancho Sante Fe and some of my best memories were made in that backyard. When we were deciding where to have the wedding, it wasn’t even a question in my mind. All I could think of was the house and how I wanted both our families to enjoy it as much as I had growing up.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
After a decent amount of searching, I found my dress at Hyde Park Bridal in Cincinnati. When I tried it on I just kind of knew it was the dress. The lace was really unique to me–both romantic and kind of simple at the same time. It almost reminded me of a modern Spanish lace–which sort of fit the style of the house. I also loved the form fitting cut of the dress and the low back. The dress was everything I was looking for–simple, but unique, and fit the laid-back outdoor theme of our wedding. About a week before we flew out to San Diego for the wedding I decided to add the beaded sash to give the dress a little more definition and a touch of sparkle.
What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?
Landon: White Lace was exceptional in working with us to capture Bailey’s vision and assist in bringing all the pieces together. There were countless details put in place to capture that vision such as: the escort tiles which were chosen to emulate the style of the house, the flowers which were brilliant from Compass Floral and a perfect execution of what Bailey had in mind, even details such as the food choices of tacos added a personal touch for us. It is very difficult to point to specific details because we truly feel like every aspect of the day came together exactly as we would have hoped from the furniture, to the ceremony seating, to the dance floor. We also were incredibly impressed with DJ Thomas Giglio’s dinner playlist; he nailed it.
Bailey: There are a couple things that stick out in my mind as far as personal touches. First, we used to have an orange grove at the edge of the backyard. We used to love picking the oranges as kids and making fresh orange juice every day. The grove burned down in one of the big fires a few years ago, but the house and most of the rest of the property survived. Taya, our amazing florist, incorporated orange blossoms into Landon’s boutonniere, which I thought was really cool and brought back some great memories of the orange grove. Second, there are a lot of really cool Mexican tiles in various areas of the house, and we wanted to try to bring that detail into our wedding somehow. We ended up deciding to use some beautiful tiles as escort cards, which was a really unique detail to me. Lastly, Landon and I got engaged at our favorite taco shop in Cincinnati, so having tacos as part of the main course was a really special detail for us!
What was the most memorable part of the day?
Bailey: I think the most memorable part of the day for us was sitting in my old bedroom in the house right after the ceremony with some carne asada fries (which were AMAZING and very memorable in themselves!) and a margarita and letting it sink in that we were actually married. It’s so easy to get caught up in the pre-wedding planning and family time and hair and makeup and photos and everything else going on but having a few minutes to just sit down together–just the two of us–was really amazing.
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
Landon: Bailey and I met in college at Hillsdale College in Michigan. We started dating after graduation and got engaged after a year. We have been on and off long distance through dating and the engagement, so being married and getting settled into Cincinnati has been wonderful and we are very happy!
Bailey: Like Landon mentioned, we met in college at Hillsdale and started dated after graduation and dated long distance for 75% of our time together. We got engaged at our favorite taco spot in Cincinnati (Mazunte). It was a complete surprise to me. It was a Saturday and I was in my busiest time at work. I was really tired and hungry (and definitely not dressed for the occasion) when Landon picked me up from work around 3:00 and we headed to Mazunte for a late lunch/early dinner. When we first walked in I didn’t even notice that there was anything written on the giant blackboard in the back of the restaurant. When I noticed Landon had written “Bailey, will you marry me?” on it I was SO surprised–he got down on one knee in the restaurant and of course I said yes! Afterwards we had tacos and margaritas on the house. I love that Landon knew I wouldn’t want to be the center of attention in some fancy restaurant or crowded place and that he chose our favorite taco spot to propose.
