Real Weddings:
Aubrey and Tom’s wedding at Olowalu Plantation House
featuring Rochelle Wilhelms Photography
Aubrey and Tom celebrated their nuptials by taking a weeklong Hawaiian vacation with 100 of their closest friends and family. They filled their time at with fun and festivities and capped it off with this stunning ceremony and reception on the grounds.Alluring Events + Design enlisted local creatives and vendors to implement the fresh, tropical vision in a contemporary palette with hints of dusty blue and rich rusty, terracotta and punchy coral. Lucky for us, Rochelle Wilhelms Photography was on hand to capture all the beautiful details and special moments set against the stunning island backdrop.
What made the wedding special and unique?
Tom and I are big travelers, so it was amazing to take a vacation with 100 of our closest friends and family. We wanted to spend as much time with everyone as we could, and make it a fun wedding week, not just a day. We held a welcome party on a catamaran when everyone arrived and hosted a donut brunch the following day at the pool. All of the guys had a golf day, while the girls enjoyed a spa day. It was so fun to incorporate different events into the vacation.
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
I purchased my gown from Miosa Bride in Sacramento. I really wanted something simple and timeless.
What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?
We are big foodies so had really fun food stations at the wedding. Guests had their choice of things like hurricane fries, wok fried chowmein, taco stations and shaved ice. Food was important to both of us so we didn’t want to do anything traditional.
Also, my husband’s Mom hand dyed the ribbon for my bouquet, and she made all of our table runners.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
The whole day was stress free thanks to our amazing team of vendors. Good vendors and a wedding coordinator are key to a relaxing day! We both felt really present for the wedding, which was so refreshing. Our sunset photos were pretty amazing, and the sunset in general that night was gorgeous. We ate delicious food, and danced the night away with our friends and family, I would say everything was memorable!
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
Tom and I met through mutual friends at a BBQ, about 7 years before we started dating. Then, 7 years later, at a friend’s wedding, we had a spark, shared a few dances and started dating. Tom proposed to me in Bodega Bay, on the beach. Bodega Bay is our favorite vacation spot, so it is very sweet and really special to share that memory with a place we will continue to vacation at for years. He even had a photographer (hiding) there to capture the moment.
