Ashley and Terence celebrated their big day in old-world, european style at Oheka Castle. The couple didn’t have to travel overseas, however, because this gem-of-a-venue in right in New York state. An outdoor ceremony was held overlooking the breathtaking grounds and the design details were centered around the gorgeous, deep purple-hues florals by Ava Floral. The bride wore a cut-out lace Watters gown with just the right amount of sheer for an understated drama. We’re loving the way Grey Collective member Ryon:Lockhart Photography captured all the incredible moments in these beautiful images.
What made the wedding special and unique?
We did so much ourselves! We designed and printed the programs and menus. I learned calligraphy to hand-address our invites. And the vendors! We actually worked with people who we would go out and have a drink with. It really made it feel like we were connected to EVERYONE that day. There was so much support!
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
The gown is a Watters gown that I tried on at my first appointment at Lovely in NYC. I didn’t want to commit at my first appointment so I went to a few others and then knew I wanted to try that Watters gown on again. I looked to see when they would have a trunk sale in the area so that if I wanted to buy, I would get a discount! When I tried it on the second time I knew it was perfect for me!
What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?
We had a lot of quirky additions that helped make the day uniquely ours. We had a family friend perform the ceremony and another family friend play bagpipes after we finished saying our vows. We also just did whatever made us happy. My shoes hurt so I ended up wearing slippers the whole night. Also, we got to crowd-surf to Love In This Club at the end of the night. We also hand-painted the table assignments and used letters as opposed to numbers.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
Seeing each other for the first time. My dad’s speech. The crowd-surfing.
Tell us how you met and became engaged.
We met through mutual friends and became fast friends. We spent countless hours flirting on gchat until one day Terence told me he had feelings for me. We have been together ever since. We got engaged mid-week during the summer of 2014. Terence asked me to meet him for drinks at the Wythe hotel and then proposed in one of their rooms. Now we have the same wallpaper that was in that room in our apartment at home!
