Ashley and Ian’s destination wedding celebration was held at the historic Ribault Club on Forte George Island, Florida and served as mini-vacation for their family and friends who they don’t see as often as they’d love to. The long-distance couple met when the Ashley’s best friend married Ian’s brother. They were paired up to walk down the isle together and the rest is history! Their celebration was a mix of old and new as the couple infused a modern geometry theme into the historic southern venue. We especially love the marbled and hand-lettered invitations by the always-awesome Printerette Press, the larger-than-life bouquet by The Anti Bride and the artful and organic-inspired cakes by Sweet ‘N’ Flour. Lucky for us Stephanie W. Photography was on hand to capture all the lovely details!
How they met:
Ashley and Ian met in May 2011 in Indianapolis at her best friend and his brother’s wedding. Both were in the wedding party and were randomly paired to walk down the aisle together! They spent the whole wedding weekend talking and by the time they had to leave they were both hooked on each other.
About their first date:
Since Ashley lived in MN and Ian lived in CA they didn’t have a traditional first date. On a business trip to Long Beach for Ian and a visit to a friend in LA they decided to meet up. Ian picked Ashley up and they cruised down to Long Beach for a car show and brunch and ended up hanging out there for a couple days together before returning home.
How he proposed:
On a Sunday morning in November Ian decided they were going to go into San Francisco and do something fun. After a fun day driving around and visiting the zoo they decided to watch the sun set on the West Coast, since after 2 years of living in San Fran they still hadn’t done so yet. They put out a blanket on the beach and waited. As Ian was trying to get a picture of them he started making fun of the ugly gloves she had on, saying they were ruining the picture. She was insistent it was too cold to take them off. He then said she would have to take them off because it would be difficult to wear this. He stuck out his hand with the ring in it and asked her to marry him.
About their wedding:
They turned their wedding into a mini-vacation for their friends, and a week long vacation for most of their family so they would get to spend as much time with all the people that matter to them the most but don’t get to see often enough. For their wedding they wanted to make sure there were good drinks, fun yard games and string lights! It wouldn’t be right without string lights!
