Alex and Rob were married at one of our favorite scenic destinations—Malibu Rocky Oaks. The couple enlisted the skills of planner Berlanti Azhak to design their day which included a merlot-centric color palette and romantic vibes. Florist Poppy Design Co brought her A-game and created an incredible ceremony arch and stunning centerpieces filled with deep red and pops of dusty pink. Calligraphy was by Ruth Jahja-Daro and dusty lavender florals climbed the cake by Susie Cakes. Check out all the details and sunny moments captured in these photos by Gina & Ryan.
What made the wedding special and unique?
The wedding was a perfect combination of our styles. Rob is obsessed with hand drawn movie posters, and instead of a welcome book we had guests sign a custom poster we had that symbolized important parts of us and our relationship. Our two grandmothers passed away years before the wedding, but we found a way to incorporate them into the night by naming signature cocktails after them (as well as our cats names).
Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!
My gown was by Maggie Sottero – I’ve been watching Say Yes To the Dress on TLC for over 10 years. I wasn’t the type of person who fantasized about my wedding dress from a young age, but I’ve always thought that the store looked and seemed so glamorous! When we got engaged, my mom said she would fly out with my sister and niece and we would go to Kleinfeld (where the show is filmed). I wasn’t really sure what I was looking for, but when I put my dress on it was love at first sight. Overall it was an amazing experience at Kleinfeld and would highly recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to go and experience finding a dress there.
What were some touches added to make the wedding personal?
We had lavender sachets on each chair (along with a fan because it was hot) that guests threw on us as we were walking out after officially becoming husband and wife. Along with our signature cocktails, I did a choreographed dance with my dad which was a surprise to everyone. My husband has been enamored with movies his whole life, instead of table numbers we did our favorite movies as table names.
What was the most memorable part of the day?
The most memorable part of the day was seeing Rob at the end of the aisle when I first walked down. We didn’t do first looks, so it was a completely overwhelming experience seeing him waiting for me at the end of the aisle surrounded by all of our friends and family.
Tell us how you met and how you became engaged?
Rob and I met at work. We both were working for Robert Downey Jr’s production company.
I love Disneyland – we scheduled a trip to spend the night at the hotel with my parents. He proposed before the evening show started. I was totally surprised and embarrassed it was in front of so many people!!
