Our Love Story
We met through random bump ins at work discussing The Beatles. Afterwards I cyberstalked him like any other girl would after discovering a new crush and found him via FB. 20 messages later, we set our first date. It was an instantaneous love match and you couldn’t say his name around me without blushing. A year and a half later, we said hello to our daughter. Now 2 years later, we finally get to say I do!
The Proposal
It was on our first family vacation to Hawaii last sept. He specifically planned it around my birthday which made it even more special. He had put the whole trip together along with each activity for each day. On my actual birthday, we went to the zoo then headed over to this luau over at Sea Life park (the place where they shot 50 first dates!). I was pretty tired and groggy and our daughter was being fussy so I kind of was in a crappy mood by the time we got there. After eating, and relaxing, i was finally ready to enjoy the luau. First things first, they had called up 4 guys including Kevin to come up and participate throughout the show. They had them drink from some strange wooden cup, compete in a spear throwing contest (which he TOTALLY won), and do a dance on stage. By the end of the night, my stomach hurt so hard from laughing at all the things they were putting my poor boyfriend through.
As it got dark, the Chief started asking the audience who was there on their honeymoon. All the couples that raised their hands were brought on stage to talk about it. Then he asked how many couples were sharing their anniversary and so forth, same thing. THEN he proceeded to ask all the men who participated earlier to come up on stage with their wives. I thought “OH NO THEYRE GOING TO ASK HOW LONG WE HAVE BEEN MARRIED!” Already feeling the hint of embarrassment of just being in front of everyone, lights glaring, I wanted to hide under the table.. but they dragged me out there. When it was our turn to speak, the chief made no hesitation..
“So how long have you guys been together?”
“Almost 3 years,” I say.
“And youre not married?”
I look at Kevin, then back at the Chief, and say “nope..”
“ah cmon man! I think you need to say something.”
This is where it gets blurry, I look at Kevin, he stares at me while grabbing the mic. He starts to talk but all I can see is the lights and the crowd and the sounds start to fade away. I look back at Kevin and he just finishes saying “I love you, I love our family..” and he gets down on one knee. Thats when I lose it. Tears swell up and I am no doubt making the ugliest cry face known to man. He pulls out the box and I rush into his arms crying trying to muffle the words “YES YES”.
Everyone is cheering. I am still crying.
Then the chief asks, “so is that a yes?”
“YES!!!!!!!!”.
And that was it, we walked off stage, greeted our tired daughter, and I was grinning from ear to ear. I was getting married!!!
